Charles Hall, 1951-2002 There are very few people in my life that I can say really influenced who I am today. Influences other than what you would expect from parental responsibility during childhood. I'm describing inner influences that affect the make-up of self. Charles Hall impacted my life in this unprecedented way. As both my teacher and my friend, he had the ability to direct me to not only respect what I see, but to see itself… (there are no words for that). It might be argued that artists create art for someone else. I believe that art is not made for someone else, but rather art is made because of someone else. For me Charles Hall is that someone. I have yet to create anything without being conscious of his influences. Above is a painting that he did in 1996 titled; "Tamie Smoking".
